Theatre and Dance

In the 1970s, the work of Amah Harris, Daniel Caudeiron, Vera Cudjoe, and Jeff Henry, by visualizing and supporting the creation of African-Canadian theatre through such entities as Black Theatre Canada and Theatre Fountainhead, helped pave the way for today’s Obsidian Theatre. Djanet Sears, Andrew Moodie, and George Elliot Clarke are among the many talented African-Canadian actors who are interpreting and performing both Black and mainstream material. In classical dance, Kevin Pugh and John Alleyne have contributed to professional ballet companies. There are many dance companies representing various genres across Canada.
